About heic to jpg
HEIC to JPG converts the photos your iPhone or iPad saves by default into the format almost everything else understands. If you have ever tried to upload a photo from a new iPhone to a website, a form or a messaging app and been told the file type is not supported, this is the fix.
iPhones moved to HEIC because it stores a photo at roughly half the size of a JPEG of equivalent visible quality, which matters when a camera roll holds thousands of pictures. The cost is compatibility. Windows, most Android software, older printers and a great many websites still accept only JPG or PNG.
Conversion happens in your browser using a decoder built for the purpose, so the original never leaves your phone. Quality defaults to 92 percent, high enough that the converted file is visually identical to the original while still being far smaller than a freshly exported photo. Drop it towards 80 if you are attaching to an email and want a lighter file.
Frequently asked questions
Why can I not open my iPhone photos on my computer?
Because they are saved as HEIC, which only Apple devices and a limited number of programs understand. Converting them to JPG once solves the problem permanently.
Does converting to JPG reduce the quality?
Slightly, but not visibly at the default setting. Because HEIC is itself a modern efficient format, you are not losing very much by moving to a well-encoded JPEG.
Will the converted file be smaller than the HEIC?
Usually not, and that is expected. HEIC is more efficient than JPEG, so the JPG is often somewhat larger. The purpose here is compatibility, not file size. Use the image compressor afterwards if you also need it smaller.
Does it keep the date the photo was taken?
Yes. The capture date is carried across from the original file metadata rather than being reset to today.
Can I convert several at once?
Yes, select as many as you like. This page accepts multiple files and processes them in sequence.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The HEIC decoding happens in your browser and the converted file is handed straight back to you.
