Resampling redraws the image at the size you asked for. Turning it off only rewrites the stored dimensions, and the picture will display stretched.

How to use resize image

  1. 1
    Add your image

Drop the file onto the panel. Its current dimensions appear immediately.

  2. 2
    Enter the size you need

Set the width and height. Leave the lock on so the proportions stay correct.

  3. 3
    Download

The panel confirms the exact output dimensions before you save.

About resize image

Resize image changes the pixel dimensions of a picture. Use it when a website, email or app rejects an image for being too large, when a layout needs a specific size, or when a photo is far bigger than it needs to be and is dragging a page load down.

Two different operations share the name "resize", and the distinction matters. Resampling actually redraws the image at the new size, discarding pixels when going down and approximating new ones when going up. Relabelling only writes new width and height numbers into the file header without touching the pixels at all, which is almost never what you want: the picture will look stretched or squashed when displayed, because the underlying data has not changed.

When enlarging, understand the limit. A photo taken at 4000 pixels cannot be genuinely enlarged to 8000, because the software has to invent the extra pixels and the result looks soft. An AI upscaler is the better tool for a genuinely bigger, sharper image. Downsizing is always safe and always improves things, provided you resample properly.

Frequently asked questions

Will resizing reduce quality?

Downscaling does not hurt quality, it removes pixels. Upscaling makes an image look soft because the new pixels have to be estimated rather than captured. Resampling properly is always better than relabelling.

What is the difference between resampling and just changing the dimensions?

Resampling redraws the image so the pixels really are the new size. Simply changing the dimensions writes new numbers into the file without altering the picture data, which causes it to display stretched or distorted.

Can I make an image larger without losing quality?

Not with ordinary resizing, because detail cannot be created from nothing. An AI upscaler reconstructs plausible detail and does a better job, though it never recovers what the camera did not record in the first place.

Does resizing reduce the file size?

For a JPEG, usually substantially, because there are fewer pixels to encode. For a PNG the change is unpredictable, since compression efficiency can move either way. Compressing after resizing is the reliable way to control size.

How do I resize for a specific purpose?

For print, use the resize in cm tool and enter the physical size with the correct DPI. For social media, use one of the preset tools. For email, around 1200 pixels wide is a sensible ceiling.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Resizing is done with a canvas inside your browser.
