About passport photo maker
Passport photo maker builds an ID or passport photo to the standard size a form asks for, with a plain background and the head positioned correctly. It is the tool people return to when a document application is rejected for a photo of the wrong size, the wrong background colour, or simply not plain enough.
Most rejection reasons are mechanical rather than artistic. The photo is 35 x 45 mm at 300 DPI for most passports and visas, which works out at about 413 x 531 pixels. The background has to be plain, and light blue is required in several countries while white is the default elsewhere. The head normally has to occupy between 70 and 80 percent of the frame height, with a small margin above it. Get any one of those wrong and the application is sent back, often after a week of waiting.
This tool sets the size, the background colour and the head position, and warns you when the source image is too small to produce the required pixels at the resolution you need. It cannot check the requirements on your behalf: sizes, background colours and head proportions genuinely differ between countries, documents and issuing authorities, and those rules change. Always confirm against the official specification for your document before submitting.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a standard passport photo?
35 x 45 mm is the most common requirement worldwide, which at 300 DPI is about 413 x 531 pixels. The US uses 2 x 2 inches, and several online forms ask for 600 x 600 pixels. Requirements vary, so check the issuing authority.
What background colour do I need?
White for most UK, EU, US and Australian applications. Several countries including China and India specify light blue, and some accept either. The wrong background colour is among the most common reasons a photo is rejected.
How much of the frame should my head fill?
Most specifications require the head to occupy roughly 70 to 80 percent of the image height, measured from the top of the head to the chin, with a small margin above the head. The guide overlay shows that proportion.
Will background removal work on my photo?
It works best when the background is a plain, fairly even wall and you are clearly separated from it. Hair against a busy background is the hardest case, and edges can need tidying afterwards.
Can I print four photos on one sheet?
Yes. The tool offers a 4x6 inch print sheet at 300 DPI with four copies and crop marks, which is the standard cheap print size and works at most photo labs.
Is the photo I produce guaranteed to be accepted?
No tool can guarantee that. It gets the technical specifications right, but the authority also judges lighting, expression, sharpness, clothing and whether the photo is recent. Check the official specification and read the published list of common rejection reasons.
