About image average colour

Every photo has an average colour: mix all its pixels and you get one tone that summarises the feeling of the image. Designers and developers pull this value to build palettes, tint page backgrounds or match a brand block to a photo. This tool computes it from your image in the browser and gives you both HEX and RGB values to copy.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the most common colour?

No - this is the arithmetic average of all pixels. For the most frequent hues, use the Colour Palette Extractor.

Why is the value never pure?

Real photos mix many tones, so the average lands somewhere in between - that is its purpose.
